A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE DURANT HIGH SCHOOL LADY TIGERS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE CLASS 1A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Durant High School Lady Tigers Basketball Team finished the season with an outstanding record of 23 wins and only 10 losses; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Tigers Basketball Team won the District 5, Class 1A Championship, the Class 1A State Championship and was runner-up in the South State Championship; and

WHEREAS, many individual honors have been bestowed among the players, including the selection of Ashley Howard to the All-South and All-State Tournament Teams, the naming of Monchel Howard to the All-South Tournament Team, the selection of Reta Bailey and Bridgett Jefferson to the All-District Tournament Team, the naming of Moneka Roby to the All-State Tournament Team and the selection of LaTasha Sumerall to the All-District, All-South State and All-State Tournament Teams and the 1998-1999 Most Valuable Player; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Tigers have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Glendolyn Crowell and Assistant Coach Catherine McCrory, who have broadened the players knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Tigers have also been encouraged and supported by their managers, Leslie Burrell, Monica Ellis and Yevette Robinson; statistician, Jamie Humphrey; and bookkeeper, Peggy Ables; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Tigers developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to Durant High School; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the young people of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we commend and congratulate the Durant High School Lady Tigers Basketball Team and Head Coach Glendolyn Crowell and Assistant Coach Catherine McCrory for their outstanding 1998-1999 season, for winning the Class 1A State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Durant High School, Head Coach Glendolyn Crowell and Assistant Coach Catherine McCrory and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
